Wellness and Prevention

A wellness exam is a regular checkup from nose to tail. It is how we catch problems early.

A black and white puppy with a happy expression looking up at the camera. The puppy has black patches on its ears and around its eyes, and a predominantly white face. The photo is taken indoors with tiled flooring, and parts of shoes and furniture are visible.

The Rest of the Visit

  • We go over your pet's history, diet, behavior, and anything you've noticed.

  • Vaccines and flea, tick, and heartworm prevention, if they're due.

  • A stool check, bloodwork, or a urine test, if your pet needs one.

  • A look at the teeth, and tips for keeping them clean at home.

  • Advice on food, behavior, and routine for your pet's age.

  • If we find something, a plan for what to do next.

We recommend one at least once a year for adult pets, and more often for puppies, kittens, and seniors. We weigh your pet and take their temperature, then check from nose to tail.

Flea, Tick, and Heartworm Prevention

Fleas, ticks, and heartworms can make pets seriously sick, and they can affect your home and family too. Prevention is the safest way to protect your pet, and it helps you avoid costly treatment.

We recommend a preventive all year round. Which one depends on your pet's lifestyle and health, and on the parasites around here. We also check for parasites at wellness exams when your pet needs it.

Next: Dental Care

A lot of dental disease is below the gum line, in the roots and bone, so the full exam happens under anesthesia, with X-rays.
